In the workshop we will study songs from various regions of Greece. The islands of the North and East Aegean, Macedonia, Thrace, Eastern Romulia and of course Istanbul, will also be our study areas.

We will deconstruct the melodies of the songs, isolating ornaments, shootings, variations and using them as exercises of the voice but also as tools for studying the art of traditional singing.

The workshop is aimed for amateurs , professional singers, as well as students of any kind of level

Bio

She was born in Athens. At the age of eight, she became a member of the Traditional Music Choir of Ioannis Tsiamoulis, where she studied folk singing, Byzantine music, and traditional dance. She also participated in the choir’s concerts and recordings.

She studied oud with Christos Tsiamoulis and Byzantine music first with him and later with Giannis Arvanitis, earning her Diploma in Byzantine Music in 2000.

From a young age, she performed in concert halls and music venues and took part in theatrical productions, singing and playing the oud. She has collaborated in concerts and recordings with Domna Samiou, Pantelis Thalassinos, Nikos Papazoglou, Christos Tsiamoulis, the Centre for Asia Minor Studies, the Archive of Greek Music, Nikos Xydakis, Petros Dourdoubakis, among others.

She also appeared in two series of programs on Greek state television dedicated to rebetiko music — Eis Anamnēsin Stigmon Elkystikon and Tetras I Xakousti tou Peiraios — as well as in the series on Greek folk song Emeis oi Lalitades.

In Spring 2000, following archival study and personal research, she collaborated with Sokratis Sinopoulos, Vangelis Karipis, and Panos Dimitrakopoulos to record the CD Ta Tragoudakia Mou Poulo, featuring previously unpublished songs from Melí in Asia Minor.

In 2007, she released the CD single San Chelidoni (Cantini), with music and lyrics by Sokratis Sinopoulos. In autumn 2008, she released her first personal album, Amygdalaki Tsakisa (Music Corner), featuring selected songs from the musical traditions of the Greek world.

In 2010, together with Sokratis Sinopoulos and Christos Tsiamoulis, she released the CD Politiki Zygia (Legend), a live recording of a concert in Utrecht in November 2008.

She currently teaches traditional singing at the Athens Conservatoire and at the Municipal Conservatory
