Kyriakos Gouventas was born in Thessaloniki in 1966, where he began his musical studies at the age of twelve. He completed his studies in violin and music theory in 1991 at the Conservatory of Northern Greece, while also obtaining the L.R.M.S. diploma from the Royal Academy of Music in London.

Since 1989, he has taught and given seminars at numerous conservatories and music institutions. For two years, he served on the teaching staff of the Department of Folk and Traditional Music in Arta (Technological Educational Institute of Epirus). Since 2005, he has been teaching traditional violin and coordinating a music ensemble at the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia.

The continuous development of both his teaching material and methodology led to an invitation from the University of London—specifically the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)—to teach a seminar and workshop. He accepted the invitation and also participated in the concert “Genius of the Violin”, alongside violinists from around the world, representing the distinctive expressive and idiomatic tradition of the violin in Greece. He has also taught and performed at the Île-de-France Violin Festival in Paris.

Through his systematic teaching and performing activity, he has consistently had the opportunity to articulate his musical perspective within both large and small ensembles. Students seek him out to shape their personal performance style, develop their artistry, and refine their technical command of the traditional violin.

Over the past 20+ years, Kyriakos Gouventas has collaborated extensively with leading figures and representatives of Greek folk, demotic, and traditional music, giving numerous concerts, presentations, and broadcasts worldwide. His discography includes more than 150 full-length recordings.

He has performed as a musician and soloist with chamber and symphony orchestras (including the “Manos Hadjidakis” Ensemble, Camerata, the Hellenic Broadcasting Corporation Orchestra (ERT), and the State Orchestra of Thessaloniki), as well as with traditional music ensembles (Orchestra of the Archive of Greek Music, Chronis Aidonidis Orchestra, Domna Samiou Orchestra, among others).

He has collaborated with many prominent songwriters and composers, including Mikis Theodorakis, Giannis Markopoulos, Stamatis Spanoudakis, Christos Nikolopoulos, Nikos Kypourgos, Dionysis Savvopoulos, Sokratis Malamas, Maria Thoidou, Nikos Georgakis, Nikos Papazoglou, Pantelis Thalassinos, Vangelis Kazoulis, Manolis Famellos, Vasilis Papakonstantinou, Thanasis Papakonstantinou, Petros Dourdoubakis, Loudovikos ton Anogeion, Lavrentis Machairitsas, Nikos Portokaloglou, Nikos Xydakis, and many others, as well as with leading singers and musicians representing the distinct musical traditions of every region of Greece.

He has also edited numerous recording and print publications of the Archive of Greek Music. He is a permanent member of the renowned ensemble Primavera en Salonico with Savina Yannatou and a founding member of Estoudiantina Neas Ionias.
