Knowing our roots:
1. Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Melourgoi (13th – 18th centuries)
2. The History of Chanting Art from the first Christian centuries to
today. 2-hour lectures with audio-visual material Lectures, individual and group lessons are aimed at female students, of Byzantine and Church Music (conservatories and music schools, Students of Departments of Music Studies, Singers, as well as musicians who deal with Greek traditional music)

Afternoon cycle:

Great Supplication Rule
Optionally:
Vespers, Orthros – Divine Liturgy

B. Byzantine Choir
Women’s Byzantine Dance of Psalters – Teacher dr. Sevi Mazera: against
in the afternoon classes, the Choir class will be held.
It is addressed to female students, diploma students, or graduates or
final students of Byzantine Music.The choir lesson can
attend female students dealing with Byzantine Music and
have completed at least the first two years of studies (to know
reading the signs (quantitative, qualitative and rhythmic, as well as
main sounds, testimonies, and corruptions).
In the event that there are enough individuals, then there is a case
evening lessons of the choir to be divided into beginners and
advanced. Depending on the registrations, 2 groups may be created
– choir.

A small concert will take place after the lessons of the Byzantine choir of the master class, lasting about 15 minutes.
The morning lectures will take place in the morning hours [11.00-14.00] while the afternoon [16.00-18.00] the vocal ensembles will be prepared
(choir) and daily 18.00 – 19.30 After the end of the seminars, a certificate will be given by the teacher
monitoring.

Dr. Sevi Mazera (https://sevimazera.weebly.com/), was born in Volos – Greece.
Graduate of the Music Department of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Ph.D.
in Byzantine Musicology at the University of Athens under the supervision of Prof.
Gr. Stathis. Her thesis "The Megalynaria Theotokia of Psaltic Art" was published as
No. 16 in the series 'Meletai' of the Institute of Byzantine Musicology (I.B.M.),
Athens. She has taught for several years at the Higher Ecclesiastical Academy
"Vellas" of Ioannina. Since 2012 she is the founder and conductor of the women
byzantine Choir ‘AI ADOUSAI”(“ΑΙ ΑΔΟΥΣΑΙ – Βυζαντινός Χορός Ψαλτριών” in

interests concern the teaching methods of Psaltic Art as well as the domain of the
Historical and Comparative Musicology. She has taken part in to international
conferences (Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech etc). Several of her
scientific papers have been published at international Scientific journals. In November
2019 she conceived, organized and full filed the 1th International Conference of
orthodox women chanters and the 1th International Festival of women choirs of
eastern orthodox chant ‘Saint Cecilia’. The Conference took place at Volos
Academy for theological Studies and it was attended by more than 100 women
chanters, distinguished speakers and women choirs (https://acadimia.org/nea-

She holds a Diploma in Piano, Graduate Degrees in Music Theory, Counterpoint,
Fugue and Diploma and Byzantine Ecclesiastical Music (class M. Hadjimarkos). She
has appeared in solo recitals and chamber music concerts in Greece and abroad
(U.S.A, Spain, Germany, Italy, Egypt, Bulgaria). As a soloist she has played with
orchestras in tributes of mainly Greek and foreign composers. She is a founding
member of the Music Ensembles IAMVOS, ECHO and TRIO BALKAN. She
collaborates with internationally acclaimed soloists in concert Music. She has been an
official partner of the Royal Academy of Dancing in London in Northern Greece
(1992 – 2002). She teaches (piano and byzantine Music) at the Municipal
Conservatory of Volos since 1992, she has been head of the piano faculty at the
Municipal Conservatory of Music of Almyros. She is a music teacher in the Primary
Education and piano teacher on Music School of Volos.
